Travis County Judge Tim Sulak is a fourth-generation Texan with deep roots in our community. He’s running for re-election because we need a judge with proven experience and a reputation of integrity on the bench.
Travis County Judge Tim Sulak was born and raised in Texas. At age 13, Tim began working at the family-owned Sulak Cafe in West, Texas. There, he learned hard work and integrity. After high school, he went on to attend the University of Texas and University of Texas School of Law. He paid his tuition through a combination of loans, Social Security benefits, and his own earnings.
During his time as an attorney, Tim Sulak was widely respected in the legal community for his dedication to his profession and his commitment to improving the practice of law. He has received numerous awards. For example, he was selected by his colleagues in a statewide survey as a Texas Super Lawyer—a status awarded to only the top 5% of Texas lawyers. Additionally, he received a Presidential Citation from the State Bar for leadership in working to restore trust and confidence in the legal system.
Tim Sulak was elected to the 353rd District Court in Travis County in 2010 and was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. During his time as a judge, Tim has maintained his strong reputation. He is widely respected for his leadership, integrity, ethics, and professionalism. As judge of the 353rd District Court in Travis County, Judge Tim Sulak handles cases that directly affect everyday Texans, including appeals of regulatory decisions by state agencies, cases where the state is challenging a city policy, and cases where a citizens’ group is challenging a state policy. Judge Sulak always exercises impartiality and strives for fairness and the correct interpretation of the law.
Travis County Judge Tim Sulak is respected by his peers. In the past three Judicial Evaluation Polls conducted by the Austin Bar Association, more attorneys rated Judge Sulak “excellent” than any other judge in Travis County—in every category. The attorneys rate judges for their hard work, impartiality, correct application of the law, temperament, and overall performance.
Tim and his wife, Gail, have been married for nearly 36 years. Their daughter Sarah took after her father and went on to become a lawyer here in Texas.
